Growing concerns have emerged over the credibility of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections following claims surrounding voting figures and crowd estimates linked to activities within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political stakeholders and observers have questioned the consistency between alleged figures being circulated from APC presidential primary activities and publicly known estimates of the party’s registered membership strength across the country.
The position was expressed by Amb. (Dr.) Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, PDP Southwest Ex-Officio.According to critics, reports suggesting figures of about 10.9 million votes in APC-related exercises have raised serious concerns, particularly as several analysts believe the total registered membership of the ruling party may be far below such numbers.
Observers argue that the development has fueled suspicion among Nigerians who fear that inflated statistics from internal political activities could serve as a possible indication of what may be expected during the 2027 presidential election.
The concerns have also been linked to the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, in which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secured victory with officially declared votes reportedly below 9 million nationwide.Some commentators maintain that if significantly larger figures are now being associated with party exercises, Nigerians have legitimate reasons to demand transparency and accountability from political actors and electoral stakeholders ahead of the next general election.
Analysts further noted that discrepancies between visible crowd sizes at political gatherings and the figures eventually announced often contribute to public skepticism about the integrity of the democratic process.
They stressed that democracy should be built on credible records, transparency, and the genuine will of the electorate rather than exaggerated statistics or political propaganda.
Concerned citizens have therefore called on Nigerians, civil society organizations, and democratic institutions to remain vigilant and actively safeguard the integrity of the 2027 elections.
“Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians, not to any single political party or group. The future of the country must be determined by genuine votes and not manufactured figures,” the statement added.
