MSSN Condemns Worsening Insecurity as Oriire School Abduction Turns Deadly, Demands Urgent Government Action

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) expresses profound grief, outrage and unequivocal condemnation over the worsening security crisis in the country following the abduction of students and school personnel in Ahoro Esinele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Mussa village, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday, 15th May, 2026.

In a statement jointly signed by the National President (Amir) of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Engr. Tajudeen Mustapha Olumide, and the National Publicity Secretary of MSSN, Moshood Abiola Olatunbi, the Society expressed profound grief, outrage and strong condemnation over the worsening security situation in the country following the abduction of students and school personnel in Ahoro Esinele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and Mussa village, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Association described as heartbreaking reports confirming the killing of one of the abducted teachers, a Mathematics teacher adding that this has further deepened national concern and heightened fears over the safety of other victims still in captivity.

“Reports of disturbing visual materials relating to the incident circulating across social media have further amplified public shock and anguish.”

The statement strongly condemned this barbaric act and considers it another painful reminder of the alarming deterioration of security across Nigeria and the seeming inability of governments at various levels to effectively protect citizens, particularly students and educational personnel whose only aspiration is to learn and contribute meaningfully to society.

“It is unacceptable that innocent Nigerian students and teachers continue to become vulnerable targets for kidnappers, terrorists and criminal elements while political actors across the country appear increasingly preoccupied with political alignments, permutations and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The recurring attacks on schools and educational institutions continue to raise serious concerns about the value being placed on human lives and the future of education in the country.

Nigeria cannot continue on this dangerous path where students leave their homes in pursuit of education only to end up in captivity, while teachers who have dedicated their lives to shaping future generations become victims of violent crimes.

Schools should be centres of learning and hope, not places of fear, trauma and death.” The statement readMSSN in the statement mourned the painful loss of the deceased Mathematics teacher and extended heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues, students, friends and the entire educational community affected by this tragedy.

It pray for strength and comfort for all those grieving during this difficult period.

“We also remain deeply concerned about the safety and wellbeing of all remaining victims and call on the Federal Government, relevant security agencies and the governments of Oyo and Borno States to immediately intensify rescue efforts and deploy all necessary resources toward securing the safe and unconditional release of all abducted persons.”

The statement readFurthermore, the MSSN urged political leaders at all levels to redirect their attention from premature political calculations and place greater priority on governance and the protection of lives and property.

According to the release, leadership should be measured by the safety, security and wellbeing of citizens rather than political ambitions.

“The persistent inability to decisively confront insecurity continues to erode public confidence, weaken national unity and threaten the future of education in Nigeria.

Nigerians deserve safety, students deserve protection and families deserve peace. MSSN stands in solidarity with all affected students, teachers, families and communities during this painful period and continues to pray for the quick and safe return of all victims still in captivity.”
