PDP Chieftain Blasts APC Over “Endless Borrowing”

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has strongly criticized the borrowing strategy of the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as unsustainable and disconnected from the realities faced by Nigerians.

Reacting to reports that the administration is seeking an additional $516 million loan, Ewenla expressed concern over what he termed a “pattern of endless borrowing” under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He called for greater scrutiny and accountability in the management of public debt.

According to him, many Nigerians remain unclear about how previously secured loans have been utilized, noting that there is little visible evidence of infrastructure development to justify the scale of borrowing.

He argued that the current state of infrastructure across the country does not reflect the magnitude of financial commitments undertaken by the government.

Ewenla further questioned the administration’s policy direction, particularly its reliance on loans rather than pursuing sustainable economic alternatives.

He also raised concerns about the handling of subsidy-related issues, suggesting that inadequate reforms in that area continue to place unnecessary pressure on the nation’s finances.

The PDP chieftain highlighted the worsening economic conditions in the country, pointing to rising inflation, high cost of living, and declining purchasing power.

He said many Nigerians are struggling to meet basic needs, with some unable to afford regular meals, describing the situation as indicative of deep economic distress.

Ewenla also decried what he described as a lack of meaningful job creation, noting that government policies have not sufficiently stimulated employment or economic growth.

According to him, several of these policies have had adverse effects on citizens’ welfare.

Ewenla maintained that the continued borrowing by the current administration is not in the best interest of Nigerians, warning that there is a growing perception that government decisions are out of touch with citizens’ realities, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

While the federal government has maintained that loans are intended to fund development projects, he argued that such claims are increasingly difficult to validate without clear, measurable outcomes.

Ewenla stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and tangible progress.

The PDP Southwest Ex-Officio reiterated his party’s commitment to offering alternative solutions focused on economic stability, job creation, and people-centered policies.

He urged Nigerians to make informed choices in the next general elections, emphasizing the need for leadership that prioritizes citizens’ welfare.
