One Killed, Another Missing as Wild Elephant Invades in Iwere-Ile, Iwajowa LGA

Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of one person and the disappearance of another following a wild elephant invasion in Innayin community, Iwere-Ile area of Iwajowa Local Government Area.
This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka to Journalist, said that the incident occurred on Thursday at about 3:30 p.m., prompting an emergency response from police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters after a distress call was received.
The command said the body of a 45-year-old man, identified as Ibrahim Tijani, was found in a nearby bush with injuries consistent with an animal attack, while his remains have been evacuated to the General Hospital in Iwere-Ile for examination.
The police further said that while search still ongoing, they also confirmed that another resident, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, aged 50, is currently missing after reportedly encountering the same elephant, the command further noted that intensive search efforts are ongoing to locate him.
The police reassured residents of Innayin and surrounding communities that the situation is being closely monitored and measures are in place to prevent further casualties.
While the members of the public have been advised to avoid the affected area and promptly report any sighting of the animal to security agencies.
The command noted that relevant agencies, including the National Park Service Nigeria, are being engaged to provide expert support in managing the situation in line with wildlife conservation regulations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, called for calm among residents.
He assured that officers are working with relevant stakeholders to secure the area and prevent further harm, urging residents to cooperate with authorities.
The police also commended community members for their support and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to ensure public safety.
