Oyo State Police Avert Kidnap Plot at POS Shop, Launch Manhunt for Suspects, Assure Residents of Safety

Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that a suspected kidnapping attempt was successfully foiled on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at about 7:50 p.m. in the Old Kara area.

This was revealed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka while disclosing this to the Newsmen.

According to police reports, the incident came to light following a distress call from a concerned resident, who alerted authorities that four armed men had stormed a Point of Sale (POS) shop and opened fire. Security operatives responded swiftly to the scene.

The timely intervention of the police, working in collaboration with local hunters, prevented the attackers from carrying out what is believed to have been a planned abduction.

During the exchange, two individuals sustained gunshot injuries. They were promptly rescued and transported to a nearby medical facility, where they are currently receiving treatment and are said to be responding well.

Security forces have since intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects.

Ongoing bush-combing operations are being conducted in the area as authorities work to apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.

The command assured the residents of the state of safety and appealed to the people of the state to speak out when they see anything strange in their area.
