PDP Chieftain Condemns APC Govt Over Bauchi School Closures, Cites ‘Failure of Security

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Southwest Ex-Officio member, Amb. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the recent closure of all schools in Bauchi State over security threats as evidence of the government’s failure to protect Nigerian citizens.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday, Ewenla said the shutdown of schools highlights what he called the “collapse of national security under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.”

According to him, a government that cannot guarantee the safety of children in schools “has lost the moral ground” to discuss economic reforms, infrastructure development, or palliative measures.

He argued that the primary responsibility of any administration is the protection of lives and property, adding that “everything else is secondary.”

Ewenla noted that many Nigerians are not asking the government for comfort but for the basic ability to stay alive.

He expressed concern that kidnappings continue to occur on highways, in homes, places of worship, and now within learning environments, making education “a life-threatening activity.”

The PDP official further criticized what he described as the absence of a strategic national security blueprint, stating that the overstretching of security agencies and the continued payment of ransoms indicate a lack of control over the country’s intelligence and security architecture.

He accused the APC government of promoting slogans such as “renewed hope” while the lived reality for many Nigerians is “renewed insecurity,” with rising violence affecting agriculture, discouraging investment, and plunging families deeper into poverty.

“A government that cannot protect children is not reforming a country; it is supervising a silent national disaster,” he said.

Ewenla called on President Tinubu to urgently adopt a clear national security strategy and implement reforms that include: coordinated national security framework,mass recruitment and proper funding for security agencies, deployment of modern technological intelligence systems, Prosecution,rather than negotiation with terrorists and kidnappers, immediate restoration of safe learning environments across the country.

He stressed that these demands are not acts of hostility toward the government but constitutional expectations of citizens.

“When a government fails to secure its people, criticism becomes a patriotic duty,” he added.

Ewenla also urged President Tinubu to refrain from concentrating on political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said the administration should instead focus on measurable progress, economic stability, security reforms, and genuine accountability.

“At this critical time, Nigeria needs results, not propaganda. Governance must take priority over ambition,” he said.
