… Vows to Resist NYSC’s ‘Discriminatory’ Policy on Part-Time Students

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has issued a stern warning to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) over the mobilization crisis affecting part-time students.

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, held at the Federal Cooperative College, Eleyele, Ibadan.

NAPS President, Comrade Oyewumi Festus, condemned the NYSC’s decision to deny part-time students entry into NYSC camps and stop mobilizing them.

“We urge the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to intervene in this matter and call the NYSC to order,” Festus said. “The denial of part-time students from participating in the NYSC scheme is unjust and unacceptable.”

Festus emphasized that the requirement for mobilizing polytechnic students for NYSC is HND full-time and not OND, urging the NYSC to take note of this and act accordingly.

The NAPS president also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Egbetokun, for his proactive response to security challenges in the country.

Additionally, Festus appreciated the efforts of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in prioritizing the welfare of students, particularly the provision of palliatives and transportation support.

The association also called for a comprehensive review of the polytechnic curriculum to ensure that graduates are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the modern workforce.

NAPS vowed to resist the data rate increment by MTN and other telecommunication companies, declaring its support for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in this struggle.

The association concluded by urging the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the issues affecting polytechnic students in Nigeria.
