Maj.Gen. Onubogu Aand Family Celebrate Their Parents at 90 and 80 Years
… As Family Appreciates God for His Amazing Grace
Accompanied by his siblings, relatives, colleagues, friends and entire family, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, led his beloved parents, Venerable Godwin Allison Obiora and Mrs Ezinne Joy Nwakaego Onubogu to church in thanksgiving to the Almighty God on their 90th and 80th birthdays.
The church service took place at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Ogidi on 26 December 2024.
While delivering sermon at the church, His Lordship, the Bishop, Diocese of the Niger (Anglican Communion), Rt Rv Dr Owen Chiedozie Nwankwo, noted that God is the vine dresser who prunes us regularly to help us conform with the Word of God.
He adjudged Venerable Onubogu and his wife as upright people, who made tremendous sacrifices to grow their children and those of others in the way of God.
Bishop Owen, congratulated the celebrants on their special birthdays and charged them to sustain their service to God, who has blessed them with long life.
The celebration was also spiced by a book launch, written by Venerable Allison Onubogu. An autobiography of his life as reflected in the book titled ” *Changing Scenes of Life* “, was presented by Dr Archibald Chinwuba Ofoche. Families, friends and invited dignitaries took turns to launch the book, while the proceeds realised were dedicated to the ‘University on the Niger’, as appreciation to God for His continued blessings to the family.
Mr Onyekachi, one of the sons of Venerable and Mrs Onubogu, described their lovely parents as, “*philanthropists, school mentors, musicians, peace lovers and sports enthusiasts, who selflessly served men and devoutly worship God.* “
During reception at the Onubogus’ ancestral home in Ogidi, guests were well entertained.
There were as well, sights and sounds of the celebrants cutting their birthday cake, while dancing to traditional ‘Ogene’ music in company of their 5 children and spouses, including numerous grandchildren which added glamour to the occasion.
The Service was officiated by over 26 anglican priests. Amongst other dignitaries who graced the occasion, were the GOC 82 Division Major General HT Dada, Air Vice Marshal NI Ilo of Defence Headquarters, Air Vice Marshall I Omenyi (rtd), Commander 4 Brigade Benin, Brigadier General EO Oduyebo, and Commander 63 Brigade, Asaba Brigadier General VV Unachukwu. Others include; Brigadier General AA Yuguda, Brigadier General AK Mohammed of 302 Artllery Regiment, Brigadier General A Mohammed, Commodore MB Salisu, Professor Pat Utomi, Dr (Mrs) Grace Nwana, Chief (Engr) Godfrey Okoye of Obosi, Dr Alex Goma and several others from all works of life.
Souvenirs that included bags of rice were widely distributed in appreciation of guests, and all were wished safe trip back to their respective destinations.
