One-Way Menace: OYRTMA Cracks Down on Traffic Violations, Apprehended 18 Vehicles, Warns Recalcitrant Motorists
…As the agency Vows to Continue Operation to reduce accidents, ensure smooth traffic flow
The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has embarked on an enforcement operation to curb traffic violations in Ibadan metropolis and other parts of the state and apprehended over Eighteen vehicles for one-way and other offences.
The Operation which was led by the Executive Chairman of the Authority, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd) accompanied by the General Manager, Adekola Adeoye and over fifty officers, the exercise which was aims to create awareness and enforce traffic laws, particularly on one-way violations.
Addressing newsmen, The Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adesagba Adekoya (rtd), emphasized that the operation was prompted by a recent accident along Iwo-road, where a tipper Lorry plying one-way rammed into a moving vehicle, resulting in a fatality and injuries.
He said that the goal is to ensure free traffic flow, enabling businesses to thrive and priotizing safety in the state, the chairman however implores citizens to prioritize their safety and obey traffic rules.
Major Adesagba (rtd) noted that the Agency has been engaging with the public through radio, Television, and online platforms to enlighten and advise on alternative routes and traffic rules.
The Chairman said that plans are underway to establish a Tribunal to ensure comprehensive trials for offenders, protecting their fundamental human rights.
He added that Tribunal will handle cases of traffic offenders, environmental offenders, and other lawbreakers in the state.
Major Adesagba (rtd), however, warned recalcitrant motorists that usually ply one-way that their vehicles would not be released when apprehended until after one month.
The agency vows to continue its operations vigorously, without compromise.
