Over 6,500 women have benefited our empowerment scheme in Oyo-Mrs Makinde

No fewer than 6,500 women in Oyo state have benefited from the ongoing empowerment fund initiated by the wife of the state governor, Engr. Mrs Tamunominini Makinde.

According to the wife of the governor, the beneficiaries were drawn across the 33 local government of the state.

Speaking while hosting the women at Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan, the First Lady noted that the motive behind the empowerment was to alleviate the suffering of women in the state and to relief them from the burden of ‘Gbomu le lanta’.

She said the funds had already been paid directly to the account of beneficiaries from the account of the state government.

“I met with the executives and said we need to do something for the women no matter how small because gbomule lanta is touchoring our women.”

“I speak to them that the least of what we should give to each person is a minimum of N100,000, but I was told that alot of people are in need, so, we later settle for N50,000 for each person, and I’m still going to ask for more.”

She however urged the women to use the money effectively to support, expand their small and petty business, adding that they should also use it to better themselves and take care of their family.

She therefore thanked the governor of the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde for giving opportunity to empower the women, saying women in the state are greatful to the governor and the local government chairmen across the state.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Association of Local government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo state chapter, Hon. Sikiru Sanda described Makinde’s wife initiatives as an empathy for women in the state, urging beneficiaries to use the money judiciously so that it can add value to their well being.

Dignitaries at the event include former Commissioner for Local government and Chieftancy Affairs in the state, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, ex Special Duty Commissioner, Alhaja Faosat Sani, and Saki west local government chairman, Sharafadeen Omirinde among others
