Reps member candidate, Sarumi replicates Makinde’s gesture,commissions bore-hole, conveniences

Sequel to Governor Seyi Makinde’s policy on zero tolerance to open defecation, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Ibadan North federal constituency, house of representatives candidate at the just concluded general elections, Hon. Lanre Sarumi has commissioned a water bole-hole and a public conveniences facility for the use of Ibadan Polytechnic students to put an end to open defecation on the campus.

The event was held at the premises of the Ibadan Polytechnic to eradicate open defecation within the students community.

While addressing Journalists at the commissioning of the project, commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Abiodun Oni commended the facilitator and the donor of the project for meeting the needs and impacting the lives of the student and also complementing the effort of government in it bid to end open defecation in the state.

He called on the affluent and the weathy people in state support government in identifying the needs of the people.

“This is very impressive, it is a laudable project by individual.

“Forget that he is a politician, this came from a need that was put to him by students of polytechnic and he understand that it is needed to build-up something that is standard like this, I think it is very impressive.
It goes with the reading of the open defecation that government us following through and working towards.

“It is very important that this is use very well and the maintenance is key as well and we have been promised that they will make sure that the maintenance is paramount the usage will be sustainable.

In his address, the facilitator and the donor of the project, Hon. Lanre Sarumi explained the reason behind building the toilet and the borehole facility for the students is that he discovered the institution lack a standard toilet facility for the use of the students and he builded a standard public conveniences for the use of the students.

He called on the students to make sure they use and maintain the facility properly inorder to attract more support from the government and the affluent in the state.

“We do not do project because we can afford to do it.

“We done something that is essentially meeting the needs of this students community.

“We reached out over a year ago on how to build this project then the students came to us.

“I explained the circumstances at the time, students that will be in school were unable to get to ease themselves especially female students.

“The person that reached out to us was a female student that is experiencing this first time .

“So we had issues with snake bitting, we have issues of molestation, we have issues with self esteem essentially where female students we have someone to escort them to the bush to ease themselves, one this issues is what got to me, if we are able to do this we would meet need and solving a problem and that was why we have done this.

“The whole idea of contesting for Ibadan North federal representative in the first place is to be able to reach out to the need of other, to make our own impact in the lives of our people and our community, our society at large.

“This present an opportunity to do that, so for us is not just to contest but it is an opportunity to meet the needs of order.

“We are happy that God has given us the opportunity to do so, it is only by the grace we are able to do it and we are grateful for this.

“This moment we are happy that God has given the opportunity to meet the needs of people that God has given the bigger opportunity to impact the lives of people.

In his remark the Ibadan Polytechnic Rector, who was represented by the Dean of Environmental Department, Mrs Olusola Elegbede commended Hon. Lanre Sarumi for building the public conveniences for the students and promised to maintain and make good use of the facility.
