Whilst conveying the public apology on behalf of the container owners, Alhaji Abdul Mumeen stated that the owners regret the inconveniences, embarrassment and public outcry the protracted neglect caused the government and people of Oyo State during the period blaming it on ‘long police investigations’ and inability to get crane with sufficient capacity to help evacuate the container.
In his words, “we thank God Almighty for keeping all commuters safe during the period the container was on the road. We heard of the media outcry the issue generated across the State and we sincerely regret the hardship and inconveniences caused motorists. The delay results from prolonged police investigations and difficulty in getting heavy machineries required to remove it. We are deeply sorry and we must sincerely appreciate the efforts of OYRTMA under Mogaji Akin Fagbemi in removing the container. We thank the State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde for eventually coming to our aid before we could put our acts together”, the container owners, Alhaji Abdul Mumeen said in part.
In his reactions, the Executive Chairman, OYRTMA, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi Ph.D said: “We are glad that you are here eventually to tender your unreserved apology to the people and government of Oyo State even though your coming is a little too late. As you are aware, we have removed the container to avert likely crashes from happening at the scene. We must thank the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde for availing us relevant support to remove the container even though it was a subject of Police investigations. I implore you and other truck/container owners to ensure they are properly lashed before embarking on journeys. Meanwhile, it is imperative we thank the good people of Ibadan for reaching out to us all through the period. In same vein, we commend the media for escalating the issue till it was amicably resolved and successfully evacuated”.
You may recall that a team of top officials of OYRTMA had visited the Felele Divisional Police Headquarters to obtain understanding with the police on its plan to evacuate the container without further delay owing to the public risk it portends on the road. The container was successfully removed yesterday Thursday 30th March 2023.
