2023 Elections Likely To Witness Voters’ Apathy, Says Report Conducted by ‘Cogentmedia’

One of the many indicators of nurturing democracies is electoral
participation and civic engagement in the country’s political scene.

However, most people especially at the grassroots have become
frustrated by numerous issues within the government and our political
class, resulting in utter disinterest in politics.

A research conducted by a private media outfit in Ibadan, GOGENTMEDIA
has revealed that the fast approaching 2023 general election is likely
to witness voters’ apathy if the politicians don’t quickly do something to appease people at the grassroots.

A statement released by the CEO of the GOGENTMEDIA, Dele Akinbode and made available to newsmen stated that the outcome of a research work conducted by his firm within the Oyo State, which was basically to ascertain the positions of the people at the grassroots towards the 2023 general election shows that people have lost hope in our political class.

Akinbode averred that In Nigeria, the campaign period is often
characterised by numerous promises made by politicians seeking elective positions.

Such people are then voted in with the hope that
they will honour the promises they made to the citizens.

“However, these promises often disappear into thin air after the elections.

As a result, the next time someone comes wooing the voters, they will be quite disinterested. And this is exactly the position of
the most people at the grassroots as revealed by our research”.
He identified insecurity as another factor revealed by his research adding that voters have experienced and continue to experience violence stemming from political processes in Oyo State in the recent times, saying there have been several cases of voter assault by people facilitated by those seeking elective positions in different part of the State.

Akinbode also hinted that GOGENTMEDIA which is a subsidiary of Dele Ijinle Entertainment will soon unveil its new corporate office which
has been moved to the highbrow side of Ibadan which is Ring Road at a date that will be announced via its various social mediums platforms.
