Be Committed to Tackling Challenges Facing Girl Child, Mrs Makinde Urges Teachers, Others

The Wife of Oyo state governor Engineer Tamunominini Makinde has advised teachers, parents, Care givers and government to increase their commitment in eradicating the challenges hindering the girl child growth, right and future.

Mrs Makinde gave the advise at the celebration of the International day of the girl child, which is always celebrated on the 11th day of October every year. The event which was held at the house of chiefs, secretariat, Ibadan.

Mrs Makinde said that teachers should see themselves as professional guardians and counsellor which has been huge responsibility to the teachers.

She urged the teachers and guardians not to relent in doing their part as the fight for the right of the girl child is continum.

Mrs Makinde admonished all the girl child to always do the right thing wherever they find themselves and not to be discouraged by the circumstances they may find themselves and always strive to rise above their challenges.

She averred that “Am apprehensive because the voice of the girl child is not yet strengthen, heard enough or heard audibly, so our time to support the girl child is now, to make our voice heard, because she is the greatest legacy we will ever leave behind for our future.

Mrs Makinde continue “You have the right to be free from violence and discrimination and the right to enjoy gender equality among other right.

She added that “I want to re-emphasize that time is of the essence, the right time to do right thing is always now, the right and the future of the girl child must be protected and nurtured otherwise our society will be left to bear the lost of an amazing talented young girls, if we do not join hands in this fight” she said.

In his address, the commissioner for education, Barrister Abiodun Abdul-Roheem Abdul Rahman, urged all the girl child to constantly speak up against female genital mutilation, child marriage and other social vices.

He said that “the girl child as an agent of change can profer solutions to various issues affecting our society.

Advised that “the girl child must constantly speak up against female genital mutilation, child marriage, other social vices and to refuse to engage in illegalities.

He advised the girl child to ensure they make sacrifice of their time now inorder to live the future of their dreams.

In her remark, the commissioner for women affairs and social inclusion, Alhaja kafilat Olayiwola, urged the girl child to always remain focus and be motivated to overcome challenges confronting them in their formative years.

She added that “You as girl child you play multiple roles in the society and our economy.

Alhaja kafilat continue “You as girl child you have various right surrounding you inorder to move on in life and always remain focus and always be motivated, She said.

At end of the program, the best performing female students at the West Africa Examination Council for year 2022 and 2021 was awarded with an HP laptop and also give financial incentives for the teachers and the students.

Rahman Abiodun Abdu-Raheem, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja kafilat Olayiwola, Commissioner for Public works and transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin, The Head of Service, Mrs Amidat Ololade Agboola, The Director General Due Process, Miss Tara Adefowope and some other dignitaries.
