Stakeholders ascribe moral decadence, societal disintegration to collapse in cultural values

Stakeholders have ascribed the decay in moral decency and social disintegration among the youth to the collapsed of the cultural values which has contributed to the inability of the younger generation to engage with practices.
This was stated by the concerned stakeholders at an event organized by the Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths in it Annual Lecture held at Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo state.
While addressing Journalists, the guest lecturer, Professor, Adesina Olutayo from the department of history, University of Ibadan explained that making history insignificant in education sector has been the major problem which has been confronting the country and made the younger generation to not to have sense of history.
He said that “Removing history from the curriculum or making history insignificant was one of the problem that we encounter in this country to the extent that about three generations of Nigeria no longer have sense of history, that became a problem for us because, Youth did not know what was significant about people, culture, values and ideals so that has contributed to the decay and social disintegration that we have witnessed over time.
“The collapsed of the cultural values has contributed to the inability of the younger generation to engage with the democratic practices.
Adesina advised the younger generation to put all effort together and learn the cultural values, philosophy and ideal inorder be in better position to be engaged in at the modern democracy.
He admonished that “younger generation to go back in learning the cultural values, philosophy and ideal, so that they will be in better position to engage the democracy that we are practicing now” he said.
Earlier In his address, the president general of the Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths, Otunba Oluwafemi Awogboro condemned the way government of the day used youth for their political ambition and abandoned youth after attaining their ambition.
He explained that “Democracy is the government that has to do with taking care of the people but reverse is the case, no longer like that anymore.
“Government made used of the youth to get to power by the time they there, they abandoned them.
He further admonished parents and guardian to ensure they train their ward to imbibe Yoruba culture, language and to sustain Yoruba inorder not to move into extinction.
Awogboro advised that “Any society that forget their culture, doesn’t maintain their culture will not survive because it has to do with total ways of life.
“Those that doesn’t care about the sustainability of our culture, they can be categorize as the prodigal son.
“Many people do not like to speak their language, in many fora like this I don’t like speaking foreign language like speaking English, I prefer speaking my dialect Yoruba.
“It is shameful for Yoruba parent that failed to encourage their children to imbibe the Yoruba culture, language and decency in dressing” he said.
In his remark, Okeere of Saki, Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi III, Urged youth to work hard and learn cultural values, fairness, ideal and need to face the reality of their time inoder be successful in life.
