Mrs Makinde empowers over 3,000 women in 7 geo-political zones of Oyo

As part of efforts towards alleviating the suffering of the masses especially women at the grassroots level, the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde has empowered no fewer than 3,000 women in all 7 geo-political zones of the State to be self-reliant and financially stable in times of economic hardship.

Mrs. Makinde made this known today at the grand finale of 7 days tour to all geo-political zone in Oyo State for the women empowerment programme held at Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan.

According to the First Lady, women are endowed with the nature of managerial skills, perseverance, and determination to succeed in whatever they laid their hands on, adding that, if any woman determines to start a business with little money, she can turn the little resource to something big in the few months because that is women’s nature.

Mrs. Makinde stressed further that women are ready to do anything for the betterment of their children and family because they are builders and ready to sacrifice to ensure their children and family excel, that’s why she deemed it fit to empower women across the 33 Local Government in the State.

She maintained that the women empowerment scheme is part of what the present administration under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde promised the citizenry during the electioneering campaign in 2019 and Mr. Governor has started fulfilling the pledges for the people of Oyo State especially the women.

She, therefore, urged the beneficiaries not to sell their empowerment packages received, but to use them judiciously, stressing that the items might look small but nothing is too small to empower one’s self as it will go a long in assisting to be self-reliant”

In their different welcome address, the wife of the executive chairman, Itesiwaju local government, Mrs. Caroline Akintola said the choice of women in the scheme of this empowerment programme was premised on the indisputable fact that women are nation builders because” if you build or empower a girl, you are automatically empowering a family as well as building a nation”.

The wife of the executive chairman, Egbeda local government, Mrs. Abiola Sanda described the wife of the executive Governor of Oyo State, Mrs. Makinde as a role model and benevolence who concern with improving the living condition of people in the state most especially the women folks.

The wife of the executive chairman, Ibadan North local government, Mrs. Habeebat Yussuf, described the women empowerment programme initiated by the Oyo State First Lady as a milestone achievement in the history of our state, and Mrs. Makinde have set the pace for other women of her position to follow and emulate.

In their response, One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Taiwo Babalola commended Governor Seyi Makinde and his amiable wife for the empowerment packages which come at the right time to cushion the effect of the economic hardship experienced presently.

The chairlady for the Igbo community in Saki, Mrs. Agnes Chinazo expressed her excitement and happiness to receive the empowerment packages which she has never had the opportunity to receive such a gift in the history of Oyo state and this is a kind gesture from the First Lady.

They, therefore, promised to use the items judiciously, pledging their unflinching support towards making the dream of the present government come to reality, adding that they are ready to support Governor Seyi Makinde for the second term come 2023.

Meanwhile, the distributed items for the women empowerment program include hairdryers, cooking gas cylinders, industrial gas burners, grinding machines, and sewing machines among others.

The dignitaries at the event include Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Bayo Lawal, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Kafilat Omolabake Olayiwola, Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Diaspora, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi, Former Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Olufunmilayo Orisadeyi and Mrs. Christianah Abioye among others.
