Security: Oyo govt calls for understanding between youths, Amotekun Corps

Oyo state government has called for harmonization between the youths and southwest security network Amotekun, in the state to foster unity between the two groups.

This came to the fore at a sensitization program tagged “stakeholders meeting with Amotekun corp on security ethics of youth engagement and interaction” which was held at the house of chiefs, the state house of assembly building, Agodi, Ibadan.

While speaking with the newsmen, the Special assistance to governor Seyi Makinde on Youth and Sport, Hon. Kazeem bolarinwa advised the youths not to see the appearance of Amotekun as threat to their peace and likewise urged Amotekun not to see youth as an element of hooliganism and brigandage.

“Amotekun is a better friend to the Youth than any other force you can see or think that is the main reasons they are being inaugurated by the government of Oyo state and southwest governor’s so that youth of the state will not see the appearance of Amotekun as a threat to their peace because they have been put in place to ensure there is peace”.

In his address the mogaji of Ile-nla, Chief Olajuwon Adelokun Subair, lamented on how the youth are being used by the politicians for their political gain and abandoned.

Mogaji Ile nla explained that ” The relationship between Amotekun and Youth is a sensitive one because we should not even speak around the youth in general, should talk about the grassroot youth they are the most marginalize set of youth in Nigeria and in Oyo state because when it is time for politics they are engaged for thuggery but afterwards they are abandoned and neglected, they do not have anything they enjoy from the government at the end of the day only hooliganism is what they used them for”.

He further noted that ” we are hopeful and optimistic that is going to yield better result if it the sensitization program continue”.

He further admonished the state government on the continuation of the sensitization program inorder to yield better result.

In his remark, the special assistance to governor Seyi Makinde on Community relations, Hon. Olufemi Josiah, advised community leaders in the state to ensure they engage the Youths in all their activities to curb the menace of hooliganism and brigandage.

The participants in the program are: Amotekun corp member, Youths, representative of National Youth Council, Local community and the Mogaji’s in Ibadan.
