True federalism remains panacea to insecurity – Folarin

Practicing of true federalism has been described as an essential tool to root up the continuous deteriorating security and other problems affecting socio-economic and political development of Nigeria as a nation.

This assertion was made by Senator Teslim Folarin who was the guest lecturer at the 2021 Alumni lecture of the University of Ibadan on the topic “governance and security in Nigeria, saying no progress could be achieved in a nation that is plague by political crises, social violence, ethnic and sectional animosity as well as religious disturbances.

Folarin, also an Alumni of U.I was unsatisfied with the idea of graduate begging for job which have been affecting Nigerians from time immemorial adding that no effort converge on insecurity will be meaningful without addressing the cause of poverty.

While throwing support behind the Anti-grazing bill signed by the Southern states government, he criticized the political undertone attached to it.

Senator Folarin explained that “The reasons why there is insecurity, it is because there is so much poverty in the land.

“There is so much we can do as government and educational institutions.

He further said that ” I had the opportunity to speak with a professor and I said you guys has the responsibility of redesigning the Curriculum and he noted that what you left then when you are still student are still the same”.

Senator Folarin asserted that ” the point am making is that yes University of Ibadan is on of the best in the land and making a lot of research and how the such researches impacted our society?”

“Because there is no synergy between our institutions, you and others and real world.

Earlier in his opening speech, the chairman of the event and acting vice-chancellor University of Ibadan, Professor Babatunde Ekanola represented by former President Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Bayo Oyero, called for more activeveness of Folarin in the growth and development of U.I Alumni Association towards achieving its goals.

Also in his welcome address, the Chairman, U.I Alumni Association, Oyo State Chapter, Bello Adetokunbo who revealed that the lecture, is a tradition of the association to bring the distinguished alumni back to their Alma mater and also to tap from their intellectual prowess and wealth of experience.

The event which also featured presentation of awardees had in attendance, federal house of representatives member, Akin Alabi, Minority leader, Oyo State House of Assembly, Asimiyu Alarape, top officials of U.i, Alumni Association and among others.
