Better Life Empowerment, a war against poverty, hunger- Hon. Fowokanmi

From Oyeniyi Esan

Honourable Adebayo Oluwafemi Fowokanmi, member of Oyo state House of Assembly representing Ibadan South West constituency 2, has revealed that Better Life Empowerment, as a humanitarian program, aims to reduce the high rate of unemployment and poverty, encourage skills acquisition and boost the low- income traders’ businesses in order to fight poverty and hunger.

Fowokanmi in an interactive session with journalists at the state’s secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, on Tuesday revealed that the need to serve the people in respect to economic and financial liberation is the driving force behind the establishment of Better Life campaign.

According to him, “Better Life, as a humanitarian initiative, is an answer to the call of duty and service to the people. The initiative is to address the economic issues at the micro level because the focus is to tackle poverty and unemployment through several measures, ranging from financial grants as capital for small and middle scale entrepreneurs to industrial machineries to artisans in order to increase productivity and efficiency.

“Nigeria, as regards hunger, has a population of 91 million living below the poverty line according to statistics released by World Bank in January. The figure is worrisome and we are determined to contribute our quota in tackling the number through several measures. This is the reason we have decided to empower people in such a way that they can equally empower others. It is a chain of progress and development that must not be broken”, he concluded.

The Better Life Empowerment will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at the Baptist Secondary School, Liberty Road, Ibadan by 11am.
