Oluyole pensioners, retired teachers officially endorse Olatunji’s Reps bid, other APM candidates
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Oluyole Local Government Chapter, and retired primary school teachers, have endorsed the House of Representatives ambition of Engr. Akeem Olatunji ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They also endorsed the Hon. Waheed Akintayo and Hon. Settle Olaide for the Oyo state House of Assembly and LG elections respectively, while pledging to mobilise their members and supporters across the federal constituency for the All Progressives Movement (APM) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders meeting held at the Pensioners Building, Omiyale, Olomi, Ibadan, where members of the union publicly declared their support for the three political figures.
They also declared their endorsement and support for Bimbo Adekanmbi, Oyo APM governorship candidate and Governor Seyi Makinde, the party’s presidential flag bearer in the coming elections.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NUP, Oluyole Local Government Chapter, Comrade Amos Ayinde, expressed appreciation to Makinde, for what he described as his administration’s positive impact on the welfare of pensioners across the state.
Ayinde said the regular payment of monthly pension entitlements under the present administration had significantly improved the experiences of retirees, contrasting the situation with previous years when pensioners allegedly struggled to receive their dues.
According to him, pensioners now look forward to the 25th day of every month with confidence, owing to the consistency in the payment of their entitlements.
He said: “We sincerely appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde for what he has done for pensioners in Oyo State.
“There was a time when receiving our pension entitlements was a major challenge, but today, things have changed. We now look forward to the 25th of every month because we are confident that our entitlements will be paid.”
The pensioners’ leader also commended Governor Makinde for presenting Engr. Akeem Olatunji as the party’s Reps candidate, saying his visionary leadership and disposition to governance reflect the governor’s ideals and approach to public office.
He described Olatunji as a reflection of Makinde’s political philosophy, expressing confidence that the leadership values associated with the governor would be sustained through the political platform and candidates he represents.
Ayinde stressed that the endorsement was not merely a ceremonial declaration of support but a collective decision by the pensioners to identify with the APM political project and contribute actively to its success at the polls.
He further indicated that the union was prepared to leverage its extensive membership and grassroots networks to mobilise support for the endorsed candidates across the Oluyole Federal Constituency.
The endorsement of Olatunji, Akintayo and Olaide by the pensioners and retired teachers will add to the growing political engagements surrounding the APM’s preparations for the 2027 general elections in Oyo State.
In his brief remarks, Olatunji lauded the pensioners and retired teachers for what he describe as their show of courage to publicly and officially adopt him and other APM candidates.
He vowed to continue to advance the course of improved welfare, quality of life and standard of living of his people in the federal constituency.
Olatunji promised to remain accessible and humane to the people if elected come May, 2027. He urged them to embark on Door-To-Door campaign across all the 10 wards.
