Oyo State Emerges as Nigeria’s Undisputed Leader in Budget Execution: The Makinde Effect

In a compelling demonstration of economic foresight and fiscal prudence, Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde, who is also the Presidential Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has emerged as Nigeria’s undisputed leader in budget execution.

According to the latest fiscal reports by BudgIT/Statisense, Oyo State achieved a 66.4% budget realization rate, generating ₦564.06 billion out of its targeted ₦849.78 billion revenue in just six months. To put this remarkable milestone into perspective, Oyo State’s mid-year performance rate is more than five times higher than lowest-tier performing states like Cross River, which recorded a meager 12.9% execution rate.

In an era where many sub-national entities struggle with revenue leakages, budget padding, and under-realization of targets, Oyo State stands out as a beacon of economic viability and efficient resource allocation.

Achieving over two-thirds of an annual target in just two quarters is no stroke of luck; it is the direct outcome of strategic planning, financial discipline, aggressive internal revenue generation (IGR) reforms without overtaxing citizens, and institutional transparency.

This historic financial performance directly mirrors the visionary stewardship of the Governor of Oyo State and Presidential Candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Seyi Makinde.

Engr. Seyi Makinde has consistently brought his background as a seasoned engineer and private-sector executive into public administration. By treating governance as a system that requires precise inputs, leakproof processes, and measurable outputs, he has turned Oyo State into a model of fiscal sustainability.

While political leaders often present ambitious “budget of hope” documents that stall at implementation, Governor Seyi Makinde has proven that his administration sets realistic, achievable, and impactful targets. Generating ₦564.06 billion in six months reflects genuine economic activity, investor confidence, and high tax-compliance morale across the state.
