Oyo Police Arrest Three Over Family Massacre, Bodies Dumped in River in Lagelu LG

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder and robbery of a family at Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of the community, were arrested following intelligence received by the command on October second, 2026, over the incident which occurred on September twenty-second.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects allegedly invaded the residence of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children, armed with a locally-made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.

The police said the suspects allegedly stole two hundred thousand naira cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine, while Hammed Akinbami allegedly shot the man and the other two suspects attacked his wife.

The police said the attack later turned deadly as two of the children were allegedly tied by their hands and legs and thrown into a nearby river, while the remaining members of the family were killed and their bodies also dumped in the river.

Detectives who visited the scene recovered the family’s motorcycle, one locally-made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club, while the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation.

The remains of the woman have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the four other victims.

The suspects and case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Iyaganku, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Olugbenga, has directed a thorough investigation to ensure that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.
