Wike’s Anti-PDP Politics Will End in Political Suicide – Ewenla
…As PDP chieftain warns FCT Minister against placing interest above party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Southwest Ex-officio, Prince Ambassador (Dr) Adedipe Ewenla, has described the political decisions of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as “a political suicide in the making.”
Ewenla, in a statement on the ongoing crisis within the PDP, said Wike’s actions against the party went beyond what could be described as mere anti-party activities, arguing that they could have serious political consequences for the former Rivers State governor and his allies.
According to him, political influence is not permanent, stressing that no individual, regardless of wealth, position, influence or political structure, is bigger than the political party that provided the platform for such influence.
He warned that a political structure built around an individual could become vulnerable when party members believed that personal interests were being placed above the collective interests of the party.
Ewenla said the PDP had survived difficult periods in the past and would overcome its current challenges, expressing confidence that the ongoing crisis would eventually pass.
On the leadership dispute within the party, Ewenla said the matter remained before the courts, noting that the appellate process would be important in determining the future direction of the PDP.
He declared his support for members and candidates aligned with the Tanimu Turaki, SAN-led interim structure, expressing confidence that justice and the rule of law would ultimately prevail.
The PDP chieftain also declared his support for former President Goodluck Jonathan as a presidential option for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ewenla said the PDP needed to rebuild itself around a credible national platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that personal ambitions and factional interests should not be allowed to undermine the party’s future.
He called on PDP leaders, stakeholders, members and candidates to remain united and focused on rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ewenla said the objective should be to “rebuild the PDP, unite the PDP, strengthen the PDP, support our candidates and defeat the APC democratically in 2027.”
He added that history would ultimately judge the consequences of Wike’s present political decisions, expressing confidence that the PDP would emerge stronger from its current challenges.
“No one is bigger than the PDP. The PDP will rise again,” Ewenla declared.
