66th Independence: Makinde Urges Nigerians to Sustain Development, Fight Poverty, Inequality

…Urges Party Supporters to Mobilise Ahead of 2027 Election

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has called for sustained efforts towards achieving inclusive economic growth, reducing poverty and inequality, as Nigeria prepares to mark its 66th Independence Anniversary.

Makinde made the call on Monday while speaking during an Independence Day Walk organised by the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The Governor was represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.

The Governor described the exercise as a symbolic demonstration of unity and collective commitment towards building a stronger Oyo State and Nigeria.

He noted that Nigeria had come a long way since gaining independence, stressing the need for the country to sustain its focus on development and improve the living conditions of its citizens.

Makinde, who expressed interest in the 2027 presidential election, also solicited support for his political ambition, saying he remained optimistic about the aspiration.

He further called on residents and supporters to support the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The SSG urged members and supporters of the party to work collectively towards its success at the polls.

He commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports for organising the Independence Walk, while also applauding the large turnout of government officials, civil servants, youths and other participants.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, thanked participants for responding to the invitation and described the walk as one of the activities organised by the state government to mark Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary.

Adegoke said the initiative was designed not only to celebrate the country’s independence but also to encourage healthy living and strengthen the bond of unity among youths and residents of the state.

She also invited youths across Oyo State to join Governor Seyi Makinde at the main Independence Day celebration scheduled for October 1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

According to her, the celebration would provide an opportunity for youths and other residents to interact with the administration while commemorating Nigeria’s unity and progress.

The Independence Walk ended with participants singing solidarity songs and expressing renewed commitment to national unity and development.

The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, on Monday led top government officials, civil servants, youths and other stakeholders in an Independence Day Walk organised to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The exercise, organised by the Oyo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, was part of activities marking the anniversary and was aimed at promoting national unity, patriotism, healthy living and a sense of belonging among residents.

The walk attracted members of the State Executive Council, heads of government agencies and parastatals, political leaders, civil servants and other stakeholders.

Among those who joined the SSG were the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke; Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Hon. Mojeed Mogbonjubola; Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Wasiu Olatubosun, as well as other senior government officials.

The Head of Service, Dr. Mrs. Adenike Ayobami Fasina, also led a large contingent of civil servants to participate in the exercise.

The walk was held in a carnival-like atmosphere, with participants displaying solidarity and patriotic spirit as they moved through the designated route.
