2027: Makinde Using Presidency Bid to Escape Alleged Graft Cases — Oyo APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of using his 2027 presidential ambition as an alleged escape strategy from what it described as pending corruption and abuse-of-office cases.
The party made the allegation in a statement issued at the weekend and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, in Ibadan.
The Oyo APC also criticised the reported declaration of Monday, September 21, as a public holiday in the state, alleging that the decision was aimed at promoting a musical concert organised for youths in Ibadan. It described the development as an alleged abuse of office and misuse of state resources.
The party further questioned Makinde’s decision to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), arguing that the governor’s political structure lacked the national spread required to mount a successful presidential campaign.
According to the APC, Makinde’s presidential ambition was aimed at distracting Nigerians and anti-graft agencies from what it described as alleged cases involving the governor. It alleged that relevant security agencies were already monitoring developments and would ensure that the governor answers questions over his administration’s activities since 2019.
The party listed alleged false asset declaration, diversion of local government funds, contract variations, money laundering, land grabbing, sponsorship of violence, illegal sale of government properties, procurement of fraudulent loans, contempt of court and disobedience to court orders among issues it claimed should be investigated.
The APC further questioned how Makinde could secure the presidency under the APM, describing the party as having limited political strength across the country. It cited the party’s reported performance in recent by-elections as evidence of its claim.
The opposition party also accused Makinde of abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after allegedly contributing to its decline before moving to the APM and securing its presidential ticket.
The Oyo APC maintained that the governor’s presidential ambition should be subjected to scrutiny, particularly against the backdrop of the allegations it raised concerning his administration.
