Jejune Lawyer Remark: Makinde Accuses Alli of Political Frustration
…As Makinde’s aide dismisses criticism of streetlights and stadium projects, says Oyo is moving
The Oyo State Government has dismissed criticisms from the Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation over the powering of streetlights and the ongoing renovation of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, describing the campaign organisation’s position as politically motivated.
The government, in a statement by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said the administration would not apologise for keeping the state illuminated and secure, despite the use of generators to power some streetlights.
Olanrewaju attributed the reliance on generators to what he described as the failure of the APC-led Federal Government to provide regular electricity supply, noting that the state had also embarked on alternative energy initiatives.
He said the government had constructed a five-megawatt solar power plant, which was currently being upgraded to 12 megawatts.
On the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, the governor’s aide said the renovation had enabled Ibadan to host international football fixtures, including the Falconets’ match against Senegal in February 2026.
He explained that the temporary pause in the hosting of 3SC’s international matches at the stadium was due to further upgrades being carried out to meet evolving international standards, rather than any failure of the facility.
The statement also accused Senator Sharafadeen Alli of being preoccupied with attacking Governor Makinde, saying his criticism was linked to the governor’s earlier description of Alli as a “jejune lawyer.”
Olanrewaju argued that Makinde’s professional record as an engineer, including his elevation to Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, demonstrated his competence and professional standing.
The governor’s aide maintained that the Makinde administration was focused on delivering infrastructure and development across Oyo State rather than engaging in what he described as political distractions.
He said the state government would continue to pursue its development agenda, insisting that “the people of Oyo State deserve progress, not propaganda.”
