NFF Crisis: After NFF Leadership Resignations, Congress Members Back Tinubu’s Football Reforms

Members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Congress have reportedly aligned with the Federal Government’s position on the proposed reforms and restructuring of Nigerian football.

The development comes amid uncertainty over the response of the NFF Congress to the Federal Government’s plans to reorganise the country’s football administration.

There had been reports that members of the NFF Congress might oppose any perceived interference in the restructuring of Nigerian football following the resignation of elected members of the NFF Executive Committee, including former President Ibrahim Gusau and former General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi.

The situation also followed changes involving the leadership of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Nigeria National League (NNL) and Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO).

However, on Friday evening, about seven members of the NFF Congress reportedly visited the National Sports Commission to express their support for President Bola Tinubu’s football reform agenda.

The delegation was said to have been made up largely of chairmen of State Football Associations.

The latest development is expected to generate further discussions among stakeholders as the Federal Government moves to implement its proposed reforms in the administration and organisation of Nigerian football.
