Oyo FOMWAN Holds Simultaneous Environmental Sanitation Across Oyo State to Mark Day Three of 40th Anniversary
The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Oyo State Chapter, on Wednesday carried out simultaneous environmental sanitation exercises across all Local Government Areas and zones of the state as part of activities marking the third day of its ongoing 40th Anniversary celebration.
The statewide exercise saw members of the association clean markets, mosques and other public spaces while also sensitising residents on the importance of environmental cleanliness, proper waste disposal and healthy living.
In Ibadan, the environmental sanitation exercise at the popular Oje Market was led by the Amirah Dr. Lateefat Olasumbo Dairo and the Chairperson of the Central Planning Committee for the anniversary celebration, Alhaja Sururat Oyero. Other notable members including Alhaja Bushrah Oloso were also present.
The team swept the market environment, cleared refuse and engaged traders, particularly market women, on the need to embrace cleanliness as a daily responsibility.
They urged them to maintain hygienic surroundings at all times, stressing that a clean environment is essential for preventing diseases and promoting the well-being of communities.
The FOMWAN leaders also reminded the traders that Islam places great emphasis on cleanliness, encouraging them to sustain the culture of proper sanitation in their homes, business premises and public places.
The environmental sanitation campaign was equally replicated in other parts of Ibadan and across Oyo State.
Members cleaned the surroundings of Arademi Mosque, Akobo; Anwarul Islam Mosque, Eleyele; and Onikoro Central Mosque, opposite Motiladi Filling Station, where they also enlightened members of the public on environmental hygiene.
Similarly, members of FOMWAN Ido Local Government participated actively in the exercise by cleaning their surroundings and encouraging residents to take ownership of their environment as part of efforts to build healthier and cleaner communities.
Reports from other Local Government Areas across the state indicated that members turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise, demonstrating the association’s commitment to humanitarian service, community development and public health advocacy.
The celebration will culminate in a grand finale on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Prof. Thomas Oritsejolomi Hall, International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
