Ado-Awaye in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State was filled with mourners, political leaders, legal luminaries and eminent personalities from across the country as the late Chief Mrs. Alice Idowu Omoyeni Asake Oladokun was laid to rest at the age of 101.

The deceased, mother of former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Samson Iyiola Oladokun, was celebrated for her exemplary life of service, compassion, industry and godliness.

Family members, friends and well-wishers described her as a woman whose enduring legacy was reflected in the lives of the many people she nurtured and inspired.

Delivering the funeral sermon, the Resident Minister of First Baptist Church, Molete, Ibadan, Reverend Edward Alabi, urged Christians to focus on building lasting legacies rather than pursuing material wealth.

Preaching from Proverbs 31:28–31 on the theme, “Celebrate the Life and Times of a Hero Maker,” he said the late matriarch’s greatest achievement was the values she instilled in her children and the positive impact she made on society.

The cleric identified three major lessons from the deceased’s life: that legacy is more valuable than material possessions, that longevity comes only from God, and that believers should remain faithful in serving God throughout their lifetime.

He encouraged the children and family members to uphold the virtues for which the deceased was known.

Speaking with journalists, former Deputy Governor Barrister Samson Oladokun described his late mother as the foundation of his life, attributing his success, good health and accomplishments to her sacrifices, unwavering prayers and godly upbringing. He recalled how she cared for him through childhood illness, nurtured many children beyond her biological family and taught him to always do good without expecting rewards.

Oladokun said his mother lived a fulfilled life, witnessing the achievements of her children before passing on peacefully at the age of 101.

He noted that beyond being a devoted mother, she was a successful entrepreneur, renowned hairdresser and community woman whose home remained open to relatives, friends and neighbours throughout her lifetime.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, described the late Chief Mrs. Oladokun as a virtuous woman whose life was marked by integrity, hard work and unwavering commitment to family values.

He said the impressive turnout at the funeral reflected the respect and goodwill she earned during her lifetime.

Chief Adeyemo commiserated with Barrister Samson Oladokun and the entire family, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.

He urged the children and relatives of the deceased to preserve the enduring values of honesty, service and humility for which their mother was widely known.

Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, also paid tribute to the deceased, describing her as a woman whose exemplary life produced generations of responsible and accomplished children.

He noted that her legacy would continue to inspire families and society for years to come.

Justice Ariwoola extended his condolences to the Oladokun family, urging them to take solace in the remarkable life their matriarch lived.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and encouraged the family to remain united while sustaining the values and principles she bequeathed to them.

Among dignitaries at the funeral were former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, APC South-West Publicity Secretary, Chief Ayo Afolabi, Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape, alongside other political leaders, legal practitioners, traditional rulers and community stakeholders.
