Oriire Abduction: Oyo State Police Deny Inviting Monarch Over Kidnap Investigation
…As Command describes report as misleading and unfounded
…Warns against spreading unverified information
Oyo State Police Command has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media that a traditional ruler in Oriire Local Government Area, High Chief Tajudeen Abioye, the Elesinele of Esinele, was invited for questioning over the recent abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the community.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, described the report as unfounded and misleading, stressing that the traditional ruler was never invited by the police in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The Command alleged that the publication was part of a deliberate misinformation campaign by criminal elements seeking to create division, generate unnecessary tension, and undermine security efforts aimed at rescuing the abducted victims and apprehending those responsible for the crime.
The police therefore urged members of the public to disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified information capable of disrupting ongoing security operations.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders and security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims and called on residents to continue providing credible and timely information through appropriate channels.
