…Recovered cartridges believed linke to criminal supply chain

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects for the unlawful possession of 250 live cartridges in a renewed crackdown on illegal arms and ammunition in the state.

The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Ganiyu Sodiq and 23-year-old Salaudeen Sheriff, both residents of Komu, were arrested on June 10, 2026, at Budo Pako in the Oke-Oyan area following intelligence-led surveillance operations by police operatives.

According to the Police Command, a total of 250 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects during the operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing the ammunition.

The police further disclosed that findings so far suggest that the suspects may be involved in the illegal trafficking and supply of ammunition to criminal elements operating within and outside Oyo State.

The Command says investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider network, identify possible accomplices, and determine the source and intended destination of the recovered cartridges.

The suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Olugbemiga, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, noting that such weapons remain major drivers of violent crimes.

The Police Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies, stressing that community support is crucial in the fight against crime and criminality.
