APM Demands Probe Into Alleged Bias at Lagos Voter Registration Centres

…As Party urges INEC to investigate complaints and ensure equal access for all eligible voters.

The Lagos State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) has expressed concern over reports of alleged discrimination at voter registration centres across the state during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, the APM said it had received complaints from eligible Nigerians who claimed they were denied registration or subjected to delays and unfriendly treatment based on their perceived political affiliations, ethnic backgrounds, names, or regions of origin.

The party described the allegations as a potential threat to the integrity of the electoral process and the constitutional rights of citizens, stressing that the right to register and vote is a fundamental democratic right guaranteed to all Nigerians regardless of ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or place of origin.

APM called on INEC to investigate the allegations and ensure that all registration centres operate in a transparent, fair and non-discriminatory manner.

The party also urged the electoral commission to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent any form of bias, intimidation or exclusion during the exercise.

The party further encouraged individuals who may have experienced discrimination or obstruction during the registration process to document and report such incidents through appropriate channels for investigation and redress.

It also called on civil society organisations, election observers and other stakeholders to work with INEC to ensure that the voter registration exercise remains credible, transparent and accessible to all eligible Nigerians.
