2027: Makinde Joins Presidential Race, Unveils PDP–APM Coalition
…Calls for opposition unity against intimidation
…Says Nigerians deserve credible alternative
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest for the office of president election in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
Governor Makinde made the declaration during a Unity Mega Rally held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he also announced a political alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Allied People’s Movement, APM.
The event attracted party supporters, political leaders, and stakeholders who gathered to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties.

Speaking at the rally, Governor Makinde said Nigeria was currently facing a critical moment in its democratic journey, alleging that opposition parties across the country were being subjected to intimidation and interference aimed at creating a one-party state.

The governor stressed that democracy can only thrive under a multi-party system and expressed concern over worsening insecurity and economic hardship, saying millions of Nigerians are struggling daily to survive.
Governor Makinde accused those in power of treating the people’s mandate as personal property instead of a responsibility to serve the nation.

He called on opposition parties to put aside their differences and work together to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman Allied People Movement, Yusuf Dantalle said that the party remains united and crisis-free because of its commitment to inclusiveness and internal democracy.

He said the alliance was not formed to fight or destroy anyone, but to rebuild confidence in Nigeria and ensure citizens once again take pride in the country.
Dantalle welcomed the alliance with the PDP, stating that the party was pleasd to collaborate with leaders such as Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

At the Unity Mega Rally party supporters, political leaders, and stakeholders gathered to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between both parties.
