The maiden edition of the Akinyele Spelling Challenge was held on the 2nd of May 2026 in Moniya, Ibadan, bringing together over 50 pupils from various primary schools across Akinyele Local Government Area.

The competition, convened by Pastor Olatunde Moore, proprietor of Ivory Educational Resources, took place at Funduk Hall and focused on promoting academic excellence among young learners.

Addressing participants and guests, Moore said the initiative was driven by a strong desire to contribute to nation-building through human capacity development.

He noted that the programme aims to inspire children to discover and develop their potential while steering them away from negative influences.

According to him, educational initiatives of this nature are uncommon within the local government, making it important for stakeholders to embrace and support such efforts.

Moore added that the competition also encourages parental involvement, citing the example of one of the winners whose father actively supported her throughout her preparation.

He, however, highlighted funding challenges, stating that the available resources could only accommodate fewer than 100 participants in this first edition.

Moore revealed that efforts to secure sponsorship from corporate organisations, including banks, were unsuccessful.

Despite this, he expressed optimism that the success of the inaugural event would attract greater support in future editions.

At the end of the competition, Olatunji Treasure from Akingbile emerged as the overall winner, receiving a cash prize of ₦100,000.

Luqman Abdulsalam from Igbo-Oloyin secured second place with ₦50,000, while Ejiro Bethel from Sagbe came third and was awarded ₦30,000.

Organisers say plans are underway to expand the scope of the competition in subsequent editions, with the hope of reaching more pupils across the local government and beyond.
