Oyo Speaker Ogundoyin Hails Makinde’s Consistency After Supreme Court Verdict

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde following the Supreme Court judgment on the internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued by the Speaker on Monday, he described the ruling as a turning point that validates the governor’s stance during one of the party’s most turbulent periods.

The Speaker said Governor Makinde’s actions before, during, and after the 2023 general elections have now been affirmed both legally and politically, noting that the judgment effectively resolves disputes that had divided the PDP at the national level.According to him, the decision goes beyond a legal conclusion, reflecting recognition for leaders who maintained their position amid pressure and internal divisions.Reflecting on the crisis, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin said Makinde’s people-focused approach set him apart.

“You fought the good fight, and today even your political opponents acknowledge your ability to prioritise collective interest over personal ambition,” he said.

He also compared Makinde’s leadership style to the democratic traditions associated with late Obafemi Awolowo, late Samuel Ladoke Akintola and late Bola Ige, noting that his governance approach has earned him a place in the state’s political history.

Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin pledged continued support for the administration, stating that the political structure built under Makinde would be sustained and strengthened.

“We reaffirm our loyalty to our political leader. His people-first philosophy has provided direction for future leadership,” he added.

The Speaker emphasised the need for unity across the state, saying the administration has strengthened cooperation across regions.“From Ibadan to Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa and Oyo, we remain one people bound by a common destiny,” he said.

He added that the Governor’s leadership has contributed to the emergence of a new generation of political actors focused on service, inclusiveness and accountability, assuring that the administration’s gains would be consolidated.
