A governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Prince Laja Adeoye, has criticised the reported endorsement of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, describing the move as an attempt to sustain the ruling party’s long-standing control of the state.

Adeoye, who is seeking to contest in the 2027 governorship election, alleged that the endorsement reflects internal arrangements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) rather than a process driven by public interest.

He argued that Lagos governance over the past two decades has been dominated by entrenched political structures.

According to him, the decision signals continuity rather than change, at a time when residents are facing challenges such as traffic congestion, flooding, rising cost of living, and concerns over public services.

He further claimed that economic pressures, housing affordability, and healthcare access remain key issues affecting many Lagosians.Adeoye said the 2027 election would present an opportunity for voters to reassess the state’s leadership direction, urged citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.

As part of his campaign, the PDP aspirant also introduced a policy framework tagged “Atunto Eko 1.0, Re-Engineering Lagos for Inclusive Prosperity.”

The proposal outlines plans across infrastructure, job creation, security, housing, education, healthcare, environmental management, and governance reforms.Among the highlights, Adeoye proposed improvements in transportation systems, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, expanded housing initiatives, and increased investment in health and education.

He also emphasised the use of technology in governance and security, as well as measures aimed at improving transparency and accountability.

With political activities gradually building ahead of the next electoral cycle, observers say developments within both major parties are likely to shape the contest for leadership in Lagos State.
