An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Hakeem Alao, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, outlining a four-point agenda focused on agriculture, education, healthcare, and civil service reform.

Alao made the declaration during an event held at the Emmanuel Alayande Teachers Resource Centre in Ibadan, where he addressed party members and supporters on his vision for the state.

Speaking at the event, the engineer-turned-politician emphasized that his policy direction is anchored on addressing hunger and improving the welfare of residents.

He identified agriculture as the cornerstone of his agenda, stressing the need for increased food production.

According to him, despite the rise in federal allocations since the administration of Bola Tinubu began, there has been insufficient investment in agricultural productivity at the state level.

He pledged that his administration, if elected, would invest heavily in cash crops, food crops, and animal husbandry to ensure food security not only for Oyo State but for the entire Southwest and Nigeria at large.

Alao, who described himself as a lifelong farmer, expressed confidence in agriculture as a sustainable path to economic growth, noting that a nation that prioritizes farming can adequately feed its population.

On party politics, the aspirant called on President Tinubu to engage stakeholders in Oyo State ahead of the APC primaries.

He advocated for an inclusive process, whether through consensus or direct primaries, urging that party leaders be consulted to provide insights into the candidates.

Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Alao referenced the 2022 governorship primaries, where he lost to Teslim Folarin, stating that he remained committed to the party and actively supported its candidates during the election.

He dismissed the idea of defecting, stressing that true progressives remain steadfast in their political ideology.

In his message to the people of Oyo State, Alao called for unity and support, expressing confidence in his ability to transform the state by ensuring food security, improved healthcare, and a better standard of living.
