Lagos PDP Dismisses Deji Doherty’s Claims, Alleges Misrepresentation and Political Opportunism

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has rejected recent comments made by Deji Doherty, describing them as misleading and lacking legitimacy.

The PDP further alleged that his remarks were aimed at misleading the public and maintaining political relevance amid ongoing internal developments.

According to the statement, Doherty’s criticism of the party’s internal processes was “procedurally hollow and intellectually dishonest,” noting what it described as contradictions in his claims and questioning his credibility.

The party also referenced past controversies involving Doherty, including an alleged dispute with Ayodele Fayose over mobilization funds linked to a convention reportedly aligned with Nyesom Wike.

It argued that such incidents undermine his moral authority to comment on party discipline and integrity.

Additionally, the PDP raised concerns about alleged actions during the 2023 general elections, claiming Doherty may have received inducements from Obafemi Hamzat, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to weaken party cohesion in Lagos State.

These claims were presented as part of a broader pattern of what the PDP described as “transactional politics.”

The statement also drew a distinction between Doherty and Seyi Makinde, emphasizing that Makinde’s governance and political approach reflect a higher level of institutional responsibility.

On party leadership, the PDP reaffirmed that its national structure remains under the leadership of Tanimu Turaki, while Amos Fawole was identified as the legitimate leader of the party in Lagos State.

The party further cited a recent stakeholders’ meeting involving Lagos PDP leaders and governorship aspirant Adelaja Adeoye as evidence of its active grassroots engagement and internal cohesion.

Addressing ongoing internal disputes, the PDP noted that related matters are currently before the Supreme Court of Nigeria and expressed confidence in the judicial process to resolve them.

The party concluded by urging the public to disregard Doherty’s statements, maintaining that he does not represent the PDP in any official capacity.

It reiterated its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and presenting a credible political alternative to Nigerians.
