Police Arrest Three Suspected Robbers, Recover Toy Pistol in Ibadan

Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a toy pistol during a routine patrol operation in Ibadan.

This was disclosed by the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka to the Newsmen noting that the suspects, Godwin Cletus (26), Adedokun Isah (17), and Rafiu Usman (19), were apprehended on Monday, at about 12:30 p.m. along Awolowo Road in the Bodija area of the city.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the suspects were intercepted by operatives attached to the Bodija Housing Division while on a stop-and-search duty.

The trio was riding a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BDJ 386 QH when they were stopped based on reasonable suspicion.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a toy pistol concealed in a black bag, as well as six mobile phones found in their possession.

The discovery raised further suspicion, prompting their immediate arrest.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to engaging in robbery operations, targeting unsuspecting members of the public and dispossessing them of their valuables.

The command said the confessions have provided useful leads to aid ongoing investigations.

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine the extent of their criminal activities and identify possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

He also urged residents to remain alert and continue to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.

The police command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
