2027: PDP BoT Seek Reconciliation, Urge Members to Close Ranks

…As Party leaders say unity is key to fielding candidates in the 2027 general elections

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on leaders and members of the party to set aside personal and group interests and unite in order to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The call was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of an expanded emergency meeting of the board held on March 10 and 11, 2026, and presented by the BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara.

In the communiqué, the BoT said it was mindful of the aspirations of many party members seeking to contest various positions in the 2027 general elections, stressing the need for unity to ensure the party remains competitive.

The board noted that, as the conscience and third highest organ of the party, it would take immediate steps to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and end internal disputes threatening the stability of the PDP.

According to the BoT, the reconciliation effort is aimed at restoring the party to good political health and ensuring it can field candidates in the 2027 elections.

The trustees also acknowledged the reconciliation window provided by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, and said it would explore the opportunity to resolve the leadership crisis within the party.

The board expressed concern over what it described as avoidable internal leadership disputes and litigations, noting that the wranglings had negatively affected the unity and smooth running of the PDP as the country’s major opposition party.

The BoT further commended the efforts of Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State, and Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, for their commitment and steadfastness toward the party and the wellbeing of Nigerians.

It also announced the approval of the appointment of Muazu Babangida Aliyu as Secretary of the Board, in line with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

The BoT urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring that the PDP was working to reposition itself to rescue the nation from what it described as the stranglehold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
