The Alaafin of Oyo’s
Palace has refuted claims by Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, that he consulted with the Alaafin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Soun of Ogbomoso on the issue of rotational chairmanship of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, Mr. Bode Durojaiye, the Palace described the governor’s claim as inaccurate.
According to the statement, there was no time His Imperial Majesty, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, held any meeting with Governor Makinde or with the other traditional rulers mentioned regarding the matter.
The Palace further clarified that the Alaafin neither discussed nor endorsed the idea of rotational chairmanship of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs with the governor or any other party.
“The position of the Alaafin and the entire Oyo community on the issue of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs has already been clearly stated,” the statement read.
It added that the official stance was conveyed to Governor Makinde through a memorandum submitted by the Oyo Council of Elders.
