NUJ Christmas Carol Committee Commends Akeem Abas for Inclusive Leadership, Welfare Initiatives
The 2025 Christmas Carol Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Akeem Abas, for his leadership and support towards the successful hosting of the 2025 Christmas Carol Service of Nine Lessons.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Lekan Shobo Shobowale, the Committee described Abas’ commitment to the programme as exceptional, noting that his personal involvement played a significant role in ensuring a colourful and impactful celebration for journalists and other participants.
The Committee noted that despite being a Muslim, the NUJ Chairman demonstrated an apolitical, non-ethnic and non-religious approach to leadership by going the extra mile to support the Christmas celebration, thereby promoting unity, inclusiveness and mutual respect within the union.
It commended Abas for what it described as a strong welfarist disposition, evident in his sponsorship of what it called an unprecedented Christmas Carol Service, as well as the distribution of bags of rice to journalists in Oyo State as Christmas packages.
According to the Committee, the achievements recorded within two weeks of Abas’ assumption of office underscored his passion for the welfare of members and his determination to lead by example in addressing their needs.
Beyond the Christmas festivities, the Committee also praised the NUJ Chairman for strides recorded under his leadership in the area of capacity building, particularly his success in securing two trainings on Artificial Intelligence for members slated for January next year.
It further hailed the Google training programmes scheduled for February 2026, describing the initiative as a deliberate effort to reposition journalists in Oyo State for global relevance in the evolving media landscape.
The Committee called on journalists, patrons and stakeholders in the state to give their full support to the Akeem Abas-led administration, stressing that collective backing would enable the leadership to deliver on its programmes and agenda for the benefit of members.
