Only Makinde, Adeleke Showing True Leadership in Southwest — Amb. Ewenla

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest, Amb. Adedipe Dauda Ewenla, has expressed disappointment over what he described as the widening performance gap among governors in the region.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Ewenla said that out of the six states in the Southwest, only two governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, are delivering what he termed “real governance, real development, and real results.”

According to him, the two PDP governors have distinguished themselves through purposeful leadership, accountability, and visible progress, while their counterparts from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have fallen short despite having greater financial resources.

“It has become embarrassing and disappointing to compare the performances of governors in the Southwest.

The gap is now too wide to ignore. Only Governors Makinde and Adeleke are showing what leadership should look like,” Ewenla stated.

Ewenla praised Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as transformative governance in Oyo State, citing massive infrastructure development, stronger security through the Amotekun Corps, improved education funding, and policies that attract investment and grow internally generated revenue.

He described Makinde as “a symbol of capacity, maturity, and vision in governance.”

Similarly, he commended Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State for what he called a people-oriented and transparent leadership style.

He listed Adeleke’s achievements to include road rehabilitation across communities, civil service reforms, better healthcare and education focus, and an inclusive approach to governance that has “restored the people’s confidence in government.”

Ewenla criticized the governors of Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo States, accusing them of failing to deliver development that matches the level of resources at their disposal.

Despite what he described as the “biggest federal allocations and highest IGR in the region,” Ewenla lamented that the four states still grapple with infrastructural decay, poor healthcare, declining education standards, and rising insecurity.

“With all the money at their disposal, the people deserve better. What we get instead is propaganda, excuses, and underperformance,” he added.

The PDP leader urged the underperforming governors to emulate their counterparts in Oyo and Osun States, stressing that the Southwest deserves leadership that reflects its historical greatness and potential.

“When you compare real work to propaganda, and progress to excuses, only Makinde and Adeleke stand tall as the pride of the Southwest. The others must wake up and do better for their people,” he said.
