After Failed Coup, Tinubu Names New Defence Chief, Reshuffles Service Chiefs

…As Oluyede replaces Musa as CDS; Shaibu, Aneke, Abbas head Army, Air Force, Navy

Following last week’s failed coup attempt, President Bola Tinubu has announced major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, in what the Presidency describes as a move to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other newly appointed Service Chiefs include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Tinubu commended the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while charging the new appointees to demonstrate professionalism, vigilance, and unity in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement said.
