Light at Last: Adelabu Sets to Fix Ibarapa’s 15-Year Electricity Crisis

The Minister of Power and 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured the people of Ibarapa zone that he is committed to ending the 15-year challenge of epileptic electricity supply in the area.

Adelabu said residents of the zone would begin to experience improvement in power supply soon, as his Ministry has secured funding for the completion of three power substations across Ibarapa.

Speaking in Eruwa during a meeting with APC leaders, stakeholders, and members from the zone, the Minister expressed concern over the prolonged power challenges in the area, describing it as a major issue that has attracted his attention.

The Ibarapa zone comprises seven towns: Eruwa, Lanlate, Igboora, Idere, Ayete, Tapa, and Igangan.

Adelabu promised that the three substations would be completed before the end of his tenure as Minister of Power, adding that construction work would commence within the next one week.

He said:

“We’ve identified and diagnosed the electricity problem in Ibarapa. Previously, the challenge was inadequate funding, but we have now secured sufficient resources to complete the substations and upgrade existing infrastructure.

As you can see, we’ve already started delivering transformers as part of our intervention efforts. Similarly, we’ve begun lighting up major roads and clusters. Ibarapa should relax — I give you my word that the project will be completed and commissioned before I leave office.”

Meanwhile, during his consultation meetings with APC stakeholders across the five local government areas in Ibadan, Adelabu urged party leaders and members to embrace genuine reconciliation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adelabu emphasized the need for unity and collective effort to wrest power from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.

According to him, “All members must set aside their differences and forge a strong alliance in preparation for the 2027 elections. My governorship ambition is not a do-or-die affair. What matters most is ensuring that Oyo State returns to the progressive fold.”

Adelabu further called for fairness and transparency in the conduct of the party’s congresses at all levels, urging stakeholders to ensure internal democracy.

“Let there be internal democracy in our party. There shouldn’t be multiple lists for our ward, local government, and state congresses.

The party should begin credible reconciliation where everyone is carried along. I am ready to devote my time to the peace, progress, and development of our dear party,” he added.
