Sheffield Teaching Hospital (UK) in partnership with UCH Ibadan presents 2 TV sets to OYSHMB on Antimicrobial Resistance Programme for Nursing mothers and Children
The Sheffield Teaching Hospital(UK) in partnership with University College Hospital(UCH) Ibadan presents 2 Television sets to the management of Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board(OYSHMB) for Antimicrobial Resistance Programme aiming at reducing misuse and abuse of antibiotics among the nursing mothers and the children in our society.
Delivering his welcome address,the chairman of Oyo State Hospitals’ Management Board(OYSHMB),Dr. Akin Fagbemi said it is high time we educate and sensitize ourselves on the need to stop our people from arbitrary use of drugs to treat bacteria,fungi and other related diseases.
He added that the administration of his excellency Engr Oluseyi Makinde FNSE is doing tremendously well in changing the face of health sector in the state citing numerous achievements under his leadership like the just concluded Free Health Mission and distribution of treated musquitoes net across the 33 local government in the state, recruitment of health workers to all cadres within the board and prompt payment of minimum wages for all categories of workers in the state.
In his goodwill message, Professor Babatunde Ogunbosi of the department of Paediatrics, University College Hospital(UCH) Ibadan stated that Antimicrobial Resistance(AMS) occurs when microorganisms like bacteria,viruses,fungi and parasites evelve to be less susceptible and completely resistance to medication designed to kill or inhibit them.
He added that the information will be disseminated in three major languages of English,Yoruba and Pidgin for standardised messages for both the mothers and health workers.
The Chief Medical Director(CMD) of the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital(AMTH),Dr. Olanrewaju Adeniji appreciated Commonwealth Programme for Antimicrobial Resistance(CwPAMS),the UCH and the Sheffield Teaching Hospital for their support to the health care across the globe saying the programme will go a long way in reducing the arbitrary use of antibiotics among the nursing mothers and the children.
He promised the donor that the equipments will be judiciously used for its purpose of creating awareness on misuse of antibiotics in our society.He also urged the initiator to extend the gesture to all facilities within the state .
