NIG Vs Rwanda: Oyo SWAN Denies Receiving ₦250,000 from Commissioner for Sports

…As Chairman describes claim as false, reaffirms commitment to transparency

The Oyo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (OYO SWAN) has denied allegations circulating on social media that it received a financial payment from the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke.

In a statement issued on Thursday, to debunk the allegations, the Chairman of OYO SWAN, Mr. Ayomiku Ajibola, described the claim as “malicious, unfounded, and entirely false.”

The rumour alleges that the Honourable Commissioner gave the sum of ₦250,000 to the OYO SWAN executive committee following the international football match between Nigeria and Rwanda, which took place in Ibadan on Saturday.

Ajibola firmly refuted the allegation, asserting that no such transaction occurred.

“As the Chairman of this noble Association, built on the core principles of integrity and transparency, I state in the strongest possible terms that the OYO SWAN Executive Committee never received any amount of money, whether ₦250,000 or any other sum, from the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke,” the statement read.

He went on to challenge those behind the rumour to present evidence to support their claims, emphasizing that the accusation appears aimed at damaging the association’s reputation.

OYO SWAN also urged the public and its members to disregard the report, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and ethical journalism.
