The Central Committee for the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland has announced the commencement of activities leading to the installation of Olubadan designate, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Olubadan Palace, Chairman of the Coronation Central Committee, Chief Bayo Oyero, described the upcoming coronation as a momentous occasion in the history of Ibadan.
According to Chief Oyero, the coronation will take place on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the historic Mapo Hall in the heart of Ibadan.
The event, approved by the Oyo State Government, is expected to draw dignitaries and well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond.
“The coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, is not just a traditional rite; it is a reaffirmation of our unique and time-tested chieftaincy system,” Chief Oyero stated.
“Ibadan’s succession process is a model of orderliness and peace. Oba Ladoja’s ascension reflects a journey of tradition, discipline, and historical continuity.”
Olubadan designate, Oba Ladoja is a seasoned statesman and technocrat.
A former governor of Oyo State and former senator of the Federal Republic, Ladoja also boasts an impressive background as an engineer and business magnate.
His diverse experience, Chief Oyero noted, gives him a deep understanding of both grassroots and elite concerns.
“We believe Kabiyesi will bring a new vision to the throne, one that will usher in an era of development, unity, and prosperity for Ibadanland,” he said.
A week-long lineup of events has been scheduled to celebrate the coronation.
The festivities will begin on Monday, September 22, and will include: Interfaith prayers, a cultural fiesta, a coronation lecture and a thanksgiving service.
These events are intended to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ibadanland and promote unity among its diverse people.
The committee assured that all necessary arrangements concerning logistics, hospitality, and security have been put in place to ensure a smooth and memorable ceremony.
Chief Oyero called on all indigenes of Ibadan, both at home and in the diaspora, as well as friends of the ancient city, to participate in the celebrations.
“We also thank the media for their continuous support and for helping us share this significant milestone with the world,” he added.
Earlier in his welcome address, The Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Matter, Hon. Ademola Ojo revealed that the weeks long activities will on Monday commence with inter-religious prayers session at the Olubadan Palace.
He added that the coronation ceremony with series is events, designed to be inclusive and reflective of Ibadan rich cultural heritage, faiths and background, would end on Saturday, 4th October, with Thanksgiving Service at Ose-Meji temple, Oja’ba Ibadan.
Hon. Ademola Ojo further revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, formar Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and others are part of dignitaries expected at the coronation ceremony.
Present at the press briefing, include Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, member of Olubadan-in-Council and Ashipa Designate, Oba Amidu Ajibade, President General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Barrister Ajeniyi Ajewole and Mogaji’s.
Recall that Oyo State Government had earlier announced 26th of September, 2025 as the Coronation day of His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
