…As Committee Chair Waheed Akintayo says Assembly upholds fairness and transparency, faults APC’s attempt to politicize House proceedings

The lawmaker representing Oluyole state Constituency and chairman House committee on Information, Media, public affairs, and ICT, Oyo House of Assembly, Hon. Waheed Akintayo has dismissed recent allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) claiming that supporters of Governor Seyi Makinde are plotting to intimidate Hon. Ibrahim Shittu, a member representing Saki West State Constituency.

In a statement signed by Hon. Waheed Akintayo, Chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs, and ICT, the Waheed Akintayo described the APC’s claims as “false, mischievous, and ill-conceived.”

According to the statement, the APC’s accusation is part of a deliberate attempt to undermine the legislative arm through “defective preemptive tactics,” and to politicize recent developments in the state assembly.

“It is laughable and regrettable that the Oyo APC would resort to such depths of desperation. The claim that thugs are being mobilized against Hon. Shittu is not only absurd but reflects the APC’s own tendencies, not ours,” the statement read.

Akintayo emphasized that the Oyo State House of Assembly has operated peacefully and responsibly since 2019 and remains committed to upholding the principles of democracy, fairness, and due process.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the recently approved ₦300 billion loan facility by the state government, the party maintained that the loan was passed through a transparent and lawful process. It noted that the emergency sitting where the approval was given was convened due to the urgent nature of the loan, which is intended to support critical infrastructure and socio-economic development across the state.

“There is no plot, real or imagined, to victimize Hon. Ibrahim Shittu or any other lawmaker stressed that the Assembly treats all members, regardless of party affiliation, with fairness and respect,” Akintayo stated.

The Honourable representing Oluyole state Constituency also accused the APC of exploiting the situation for political gain, describing the opposition’s narrative as a “disservice to the legislative arm of government and an insult to the intelligence of Oyo citizens.”

He called for decorum, urging the APC to desist from what it called “fear-mongering tactics,” and instead adopt constructive opposition devoid of double standards.

“We urge the APC to engage responsibly and demonstrate genuine commitment to the growth and progress of Oyo State,” the statement concluded.

Akintayo reiterated the Oyo State House of Assembly focus on supporting policies that will positively impact the lives of Oyo residents and called on stakeholders to disregard the APC’s claims and continue supporting efforts to build a prosperous and united Oyo State.
