Makinde Advocates Increased Women Participation in Labour Movement

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called for greater inclusion of women in the labour movement, highlighting the importance of female representation in both union activities and politics.

The governor made this call through his Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Barrister Bayo Titilola-Sodo, at the 6th Women’s Committee Delegates’ Conference of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State Council, held at the Pensioners’ House, Agbarigo, Onireke, Ibadan.

Makinde commended the NLC Oyo State Council for integrating women into its administrative structures, stressing that such inclusivity would pave the way for broader female participation in governance and political leadership.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers, the governor assured the labour community of continued collaboration and support.

Speaking at the event, Oyo NLC Chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, applauded the governor’s labour-friendly policies and urged the newly elected executives of the women’s committee to foster unity and work collectively for the advancement of the union.

In her acceptance speech, the new Chairperson of the Oyo NLC Women’s Committee, Comrade Bolanle Olumide-Lawal, expressed gratitude for the smooth and transparent election process. She pledged to prioritize the development and empowerment of women within the union.

Other dignitaries present at the event included the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Council, Comrade Olusegun Abatan; Oyo State Controller, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Igbinosun; and Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State Council, Alhaji Raji Oladimeji.
